Name That Tune! Win a Prize!

Audrey's piano teacher tells me that she has perfect pitch, meaning that she can identify notes just by hearing them. This gives her the ability to play songs by ear, which is awesome, and hopefully a talent that we can leverage down the road.

For now it's a fun parlor game to keep me entertained and up on all of the latest hits. "Audrey!  Go play me that new Katy Gaga song!" One time she balked at one of my requests and I was all "Fine, I'll play it myself." Yeah, it's a little bit harder than it looks when you have no musical ability whatsoever.

"C'mon just tell me the first note! Doooooooo. What is that???"
(yells from the other room) "Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee."

How does she do that?

Anyway, I took a few movies of her playing snippets of some songs. The first person to correctly identify all three songs wins a shiny prize! Actually it's just Big Daddy's book, Tales From the Lighter Side of Raising a Kid With Autism.

Or in case you already have that one, I'll send you a copy of our forthcoming blog compilation Wit and Wisdom From the Parents of Special Needs Kids, coming out in just a few weeks!

SONG # 1:

SONG #2:

SONG #3:

I have absolutely no perspective on how easy or hard this is. Knowing what the songs are, of course they seem so obvious to me. If nobody wins, this will be my first and last giveaway...and My Household's Got Talent will be cancelled after it's first episode :(

  1. I don't keep up with current songs anymore so I have no idea of what these are, but I think it is very cool that Audrey can do this! Now have her play some old disco tunes from the '70s and I may have a shot.

  2. What? No AC/DC? No Def Leppard? ;) Having perfect pitch is an awesome gift. See how she copies some classical too. You have such a fabulous little gal on your hands.

  3. Tommy's always been like that. If he walks by a piano he will do something completely random like play the jeopardy theme. A few times we've been able to get him to do a little show around the holidays for us at School (yeah, back when we still ATTENDED school lol) How fantastic! Oh and I have no clue what new current songs are out there..lol

  8. 1. Motley Crue's "Girls, Girls, Girls"
    2. Ozzie's "Crazy Train"
    3. Wham's "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go"

You know where to send my prize.

  9. I lose, but then again as pitch perfect as Audrey is I am tone deaf. It made for great music classes in elementary school - can you hum? On tune? quietly?

  10. @Big Daddy: No.

Aimee has the first two right. I would have also accepted "Lambada" for #2. Y'all are crusty old farts. Someone's gotta come through with #3...it's another dance hit of the day. And I don't mean the Charleston or the Locomotion geezers. Sheesh.

  17. I can't stop laughing at Big Daddy's post. I think he should get a prize anyway.

  18. My husband has perfect pitch also! He was pretty much able to play anything he wanted on the keyboard long before he even learned to read music!

    Congrats to Audrey!

  19. Audrey is way more up on the cool music than I am! And I'm in the under 40 crowd! ;)

Can't wait to read the new book!

  20. I play but not by ear. My daughter plays by ear, and that's quite a gift. I hope Audrey continues.

Great that you have compiled a book (or two) about the lighter side of autism. I shared a story today also.
